This will be the 3rd annual Tour de Tifton and will be held March 31, 2012 at the Tiftarea YMCA. I will be providing SAG for the ride. We have a brand New Trailer which is loaded with tools and parts for the ride. The money collected from the tour is used to help the YMCA provide services to underprivileged children in the Tifton Area. If you are planning to be in South Georgia in March, why not drop by the Tiftarea Y and get a ride in. Great ride, great support, spaghetti dinner. Dr Wagenhorst is the event director and driving force behind the ride, but it takes a lot of people helping to make these things happen. Hope to see you the end of March at the Tiftarea YMCA.

Our longest road trip started in 1981 September. I had lost my job in Ohio in April and had not been able to find any work so we decide to sell everything we could and move out west. My mother lived in Dallas and we decided to head that way to see if I could get a job in the big D. After selling off just about everything we had we bought a black 1964 Ford Van for 600.00 and a small trailer. Our youngest child Chris had been born that March so was still a baby. Our oldest child Scot had had surgery in February for a hot Appendix. I had spent almost 4 weeks working with the National Guard on the Floods in Ottawa that year also.

When we started the trip we had less than 100.00 for gas and food for all 6 of us. We filled up the tank and headed for Dallas after we notified my Mother that we wre on our way. We drove as close to straight through as possible and got to Dallas, stayed with my mother, she had a separate apartment in her hosue, so we used it. I got a job right away delivering phone books for the distirbution company and did that for about 2 weeks while I also checked out everywhere else that might be hiring. It was the second day we were there when Chris went into a seizure and we took him to the closest hosiptal.
The hospital gave him Valium and the seizure moved from one side to the other, a second dose of Valium put him in respiratory arrest wher he flat lined and we thought we had lost him for sure.

The Doctors and Nurses managed to bring him back and sent him to Children’s Hospital in Dallas. He spent the bext week in ICU. We would soon have to leave Mom’s place as she had the apartment rented to someone else so we moved to a campground with my first and only paycheck from the phone books. I got another job with a Security Company called Burns and worked at The Datsun Distribution Center in Denton for about 2 months while we serched for a better job and better place to live. We were not able to really find anything good in Dallas, lots of minimum wage or just above that but no really good jobs.

Also living in a tent in a KOA with 4 children may be a nice vacation but after a couple of months it can get real tough.

While, I was in High School I had sent in a coupon from amagazine to buy 1/2 acre in what was known as Deming Ranchettes in Deming NM, so we decide to follow the Interstate and head for Deming to check out my land and maybe start a new life. We found the land not far from the Florida Mountains and we stayed on it for a while camping out in our tent and gettin water from a well that one of the locals allowed us to use.

I finally was able to get a job in Silver City at Hillcrest hospital, we found a house to rent in Silver City and began the slow process of recovery, by now it was March of 1982, so it wasn’t planned that way but essentially we started this road trip in September of 1981 and it ended in March of 1982. I think that was the longest “road trip” I can remember.

Hello fellow cyclists,

In the last post I told you about taking on new KHS and Free Agent Bikes at our small shop in Moultrie and today have another announcement. We have went live with our website at http://www.booksandmoremoultrie.com so please stop by and take a look at the site. I am adding more products to the store on a daily basis so if you are in need of something special that you don’t see ther, just shoot an email to me and I will get your item on there. Since I am doing it pretty much by myself and adding bicycle items first it is going to take some time to get it all on there.

If you are local or happen to be in the area, come by and see us, we are probably the most unique shop you will see anywhere. Inside the shop, which is actually the primary book shop in Moultrie you will find a complete Hobby Shop, Art Supply Store, RC Cars, Boats, Planes and Helos, Several Guages of Electric Trains, Scrapbook Supplies, even grab a candy bar and soda from the rach near the counter, Knives and swords and a bicycle shop that includes new and used bikes, reconditioned bikes, new and used bicycle parts, bicycle repair and upgrades. As one of our suppliers likes to ssy “WE HAVE IT ALL”.

When you come by our shop you should also drop in and meet Eric our next door neighbor at Beans and Strings. They have a really need Coffe Shop which also features Musci Lessons and intruments sales. There are also a lot of really neat unique shops and stores near us in downtown that you can visit while we fix your bike.

Here is an example of what we have there

Purple Bicycle Chain 1/8″

Single Speed and BMX Chain
112 links
1/8″ Z410 PURPLE 112L

In other news we have a BMX Race scheduled for August 22nd at The Parks at Chehaw which you can read about at www.chehawbmx.com and then we have the Nut Roll for the road bike riders coming up September 10 at Chehaw visit www.pecancitypedalers.org for more info and the Final State Qualifier for BMX also at Chehaw on September 10 also.

I understand that we will also be having a JimLaue Memorial Mountain Bike race starting on the track at Chehaw BMX on October 15th but have not confirmed that as yet. I will keep everyone informed. An earlier BMX Race was also dedicated as a Memorial ride for Jim at the Parks at Chehaw.

I case you did not know Jim Laue passed away late last year, Jim was the owner of Cycle World in Albany Georgia and was a member of the Pecan City Pedalers. Jim was also involved from the very strat with Chehaw BMX . Jim was a beloved member of the cycling community in Albany and is missed by all who kne him.

On a more personal note our son Scot (38) will be going to have surgery at Emory Medical Center in Atlanta on September 15. He will have to have his left kidney removed, so if you are a praying person, please pray that everything goes smoothly for him.

I am wondering if you can give me a little help. Nothing major, I just need
your feedback on a new venture I am launching now. I just started and I can use
some honest feedback. It won’t take much from you… I have a simple video and
website I would like your trustworthy response to.

If you have any questions ahead of time or just want to make sure this really
came from me… contact me @ [ 229-921-0072] or via email at bodymindgoals@hotmail.com

This is set up by invitation only so you will need an invitation id to access
the site.
Click this link: http://thecustomeradvantage.com
Use
this id: thebicyclenut

There are several videos there and feel free to browse around the page. Keep
mental note of your reaction and thoughts then let me know what you think. That
will be a great help to me. I really want to approach this properly before I
promote this to others.

Thanks for your help and feedback and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Jerry

Books & More and the Bike Shop in Books & More have recently added KHS Bicycles and Free Agent BMX Bicycles to their New Bicycle lines. You probably know that Books & More carry Fugi and SE bikes and sell a wide line of used bicycles as well as do bicycle repair, upgrades and especially tune-ups. So check out the bookstore website when you get the chance.

Two events that are coming up soon should be interesting to a wide variety of cyclists. We have the Nut Roll put on by the Pecan City Pedalers coming up September 10th at The Parks at Chehaw. The Nut Roll is one of the premier charity road cycling charity rides in the southeast. All road cyclists need to check out the Nut Roll

And on the same day and also in The Parks at Chehaw will be the Final State Qualifier of 2011 for the Georgia State Series of the NBL. Check out Chehaw BMX.

So if you are anywhere near Albany Georgia on September 10th 2011 you will have 2 cycling events to attend. I plan to ride the 30 Mile loop in the Nut Roll then go help my Grandkids with the State Qualifier at the track. It will be a very busy Saturday for me personally but it will be so much fun.

Have a fantasic day, and watch for upcoming news on cycling.

Hi everyone,

I am back again with some fantastic information. On February 26 at 1 PM Sharon Petzel who I understand is an excellent bike mechanic and yours truly Jerry “the bicycle nut” Goodwin will be holding a joint workshop at the Tifton Georgia YMCA. We will be showing people how to do routine maintenance on their bicycles and especially how to fix a flat. Sharon and I both ride with the Tifton Group on Sunday afternoons.

Sharon had spoken to many of especially the women riders but some of the men also that expressed an interest in getting something like this going before they ride long distances like the Tour de Tifton coming up soon. I will be following the Tour and offering mechanical support, but I am only 1 person and we are expecting about 100 riders, besides the feeling of independence from knowing exactly what to do if you need a tire repair is priceless.

If you are in the area come join us for the lube and tube workshop on February 26 th at 1 PM at the YMCA in Tifton Georgia.

TOUR DE TIFTON Gets closer daily, April 9th will come very soon and if you ride you should be looking forward to that, it is has quickly become one of the foremost rides in South Georgia taking its rightful place amongst rides like the Honey Bee festival, the Azalea Ride, the Nut Roll and others.

Yale Leiden and I will be talking about the tour and the lube and tube on my next Bicycle Nut Radio Show February 13th at 4:30 PM which will be aired from the Starbucks in Tifton

On to the BMX crowd, Chehaw BMX is redesigning itself with a 20,000.00 facility that will house a concession stand, registration office etc. The really neat thing about that is that the road bike club in Albany the Pecan City Pedalers (Nuts on Wheels) have donated the seed money for the facility. It makes me really proud to be a member of such a fine group of cyclists.

Albany now has a new bike shop at Breakaway Cycles near Wal Mart.

Of course we also have our bike shop in Moultrie and hope to see you all at the shop someday. We are located at 25 1st Street SE right across from the courthouse in historic downtown Moultrie Georgia.

Have a great day today and an even better day tomorrow.

Now let's talk about bikes.

My son Scot went to surgery this morning. The nurses said he was an excellent patient and he did fantastic. We are all back home now and he is sleeping off the medication. He will be fine.

Now let’s talk about bikes. On April 9, 2011 there will be about 100 riders that will be coming to Tifton Georgia for the 2nd Annual Tour de Tifton. Last year and again this year the bike shop will be providing some of the SAG support for the ride. We will have supplies there on site for anyone that needs them, things like tubes, blinky lights, repair kits, pumps, chains etc. We will have a van that follows the longest route to assist any rider that has problems.

As last year there will be rides of 12 Miles, 32 Miles and 63 Miles and his year the Tour de Tifton will be adding a full Century 100 mile ride. If you love to have a good time cycling come to Tifton Georgia on April 9, 2011 and have a great time. T-Shirts and Spagetti Dinner too.

The NBL has made a bunch of changes and the Parks at Chehaw BMX track is making a lot of improvements. The really neat thing is that much of the money that is being used to make improvements to the BMX Track are coming from Proceeds from the Nut Roll. The Nut Roll is a Bicycle Ride put on annually by the Pecan City Pedalers in Albany Georgia.

An Internet Radio Show is planned to discuss the Tour de Tifton and the BMX track very soon. We should be able to get Tommy Knight to talk about BMX Racing and possibly get some of the Tifton Group to talk about the Tour.

I have ridden the BMX Track many times but never raced with anyone except the grandkids until last Saturday when I raced Tommy Knight. Tommy has raced for a long time. It was my first time racing. While Tommy won all the races I felt like I did quite well for the first time ever on the track, I do have a lot of room for Improvement, and with a lot of work I can only get better. Not only will BMX practice help me with racing BMX, but it should also help quite a bit with my road racing. As most of you know i have qualified for the Nationals in road racing and should be racing in Houston in June.

Hope you all have a great day

Jerry

It is definitely time to intensify my training, last Saturday January 8, 2011 I received notice from the NSGA that I had qualified to race in Houston in June of this year. This will be my first race in the National Senior Games Association “Nationals” . I qualified by racing in the State Level Georgia Golden Olympics in Grovania Georgia back in September. My training has al;ready began but I will be adding a lot of stuff as the time gets closer. Watch here for progress reports.

It is about time for the New Years Resolutions and many of you have started making these now. Most fail as I am sure you know, but if one of your resolutions is to lose weight and get more healthy then maybe I can help. I have a site set up that offers several products that I have found useful in the past. These are downloadable ebooks and products of that nature. They are not Free products, but you are welcome to sign up for the blog here and there will be lots of free reports coming your way over the next year.

Check out the Dieting Demystified site and let me know what you think, also follow me on facebook and twitter if you like. You will be hearing a lot from the Bicycle Nut in 2011.

Have a great day

I just wanted to stop by and wish everyone here a Very Merry Christmas. 2010 has been a very good year for us as in March we were able to open a bicycle shop and I started my radio show as well as working at the hospital. I plan on being a lot more active on the Internet during 2011 as we have plans to move much of the store listings on to the Internet, probably both the bike shop items and the bookstore items.

If you ever get to Moultrie Georgia look us up, we are on the square 25 1st Street SE, directly across from the courthouse, there is plenty of parking in the back of the store as well as som in front. The store has Books of course as well as RC Cars, Planes, Boats, Motorcycles and art supplies and of course Bicycles. We offer repair on the RC items and on Bicycles whether we sold them or not.

The Name on the Storefront is Books & More and our bicycle shop is located inside the Books & More, hence the name The Bike Shop in Books & More.

Plans for 2011 included adding a lot of products to our website as well as doing a lot more Internet marketing, probably setting up a bunch of videos that can help people with maintenance on their bicycles and adding a “TV Show” through Ustream to our Radio Show as far as broadcasting goes.

So to everyone reading this Have a Merry Christmas and keep an eye out for the stuff coming next year.

Have a great day today and an even better day tomorrow

Jerry “the bicycle nut” Goodwin
